Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make the team?
Students are invited to try out based on their completed interest form. For prospective students, providing links to riding videos is a great way to showcase your skill set. During the tryout the coach will ask for a series of maneuvers, may make corrections, or run through a ranch riding or reining pattern as well as working the cowtrac. Riders are evaluated on aptitude for learning and riding skill-set.

No, it is not a requirement to major in Horse Science. Students can pick any major they wish to pursue while being a part of the team.. Students working toward a Horse Science degree generally get an abundance of opportunity within the Horse Science program. For those wishing to find a career in the horse industry, its recommended to major in Horse Science.
What classes do I show in if I make the team?
We primarily show at Tennessee Stock Horse Association shows and regional ranch horse shows. This includes showing in reining, cowhorse, ranch riding and trail classes. Riders might be placed in the Non-Pro, Limited Non-Pro, or Novice division based on their previous showing experience.
When are lessons?
Students will be offered one or two sessions a week for practice. Practice schedule times are limited due to arena availability. Potential practice times change from semester to semester.
